I was just mentioning to Emilee that I was in a very memory lane sort of mood, so I thought I'd make a reminiscing post so we could all be like old farts remembering THE GOOD OL' DAYS together (-shakes cane at passerby children- GET OFF MY LAWNNNNN, YOU WHIPPER SNAPPERS!)
So, use this thread to talk about whatever random memories come to mind. :3
Like... the last time I logged onto the MCRmy boards was March of 2007, and the band and the MCRmy have only wandered back into my life sporadically since then. But one thing I'll always associate with those old boards (because I prefer to think about the MCRmy as it was several years back, before ridiculous bouts of drama and hiatuses) were random scenarios. Emilee sent me Inspector Gee which turned out to be 25 pages in Word and it's unfinished! Holy crap, how much time did we have on our hands? The only board I really remember clearly anymore was our random board because it had the best threads. I remember spending time on the boards and also in IM chats laughing so hard it hurt and my mum would come in the room going "Why are you laughing so hard?! Stop it, YOU ARE LAUGHING AT A BOX." Whenever I had a shitty day at school I could log onto those boards and feel better in no time.
My mum was really uncomfortable with me listening to mychem for quite a while. My extended family treated me pretty horribly just because I wore band tees and hoodies and wanted to go to concerts. Eventually I convinced my mum to let me go to Warped Tour with my friend Joycie, where I got so badly sunburned that my scalp peeled for the next week and I dropped my dinky little disposable camera in the pit and dived after it without thinking which resulted in me getting kicked and stepped on before passing out briefly for the last thirty seconds of MCR's set. Then some medics on scene were like oh hey come sit with us for a few minutes just to be sure it's nothing serious, and they started asking me stuff like if I remembered when I passed out. I was like, "Oh well the last song they played was Helena, right? And well, on cd at least, it's three minutes and 22 seconds, right? So if I passed out after the bridge..." Cue them doing pretty good impressions of this: and me deciding HEY THANKS WELL IT'S BEEN A BLAST BUT I SHOULD GO HOME AND MAYBE TRY THIS AGAIN SOME OTHER TIME. XD Then when I met up with Joycie I was like okay so when my mum asks, we had THE BEST TIME EVAR because otherwise there's no way she'll let me go to their fall tour.
But attempt #2 was much better, heh. I had made friends in the Rmy by then (I think when I joined the Rmy it was just a few days before WT) and I convinced my mum to drive me down to San Diego for a show at SOMA. We got there about 8 AM and as we're pulling into the parking lot (after getting lost several times "BUT THE DIRECTIONS SAID VEER RIGHT, WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN" "MAPQUEST IS NEVER RIGHT YOU SHOULD HAVE LISTENED TO ME AND REALLY WAS IT NECESSARY TO CONTINUE OVER THAT BRIDGE?") I go oh hey, so I joined this forum that's like ... uhm ... kind of sort of ... a street team (-insert quick explanation of what a street team is for my not-quite-cool-with-her-daughter's-internet-obsession mother-) and there might be some people from the boards here that we can sit with. And by maybe I mean like ten of us made plans to hang out in line all day.
At first my mum was like >:3 (internal thoughts: THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT USE THE INTERNET ARE PEDOS. AND YOU. YOU ARE THE ONLY SLIGHTLY OKAY ONE AND YOU'RE STILL SUCH A FREAK) but the first person I met off of the boards was a chick named Sarah from Las Vegas and my mum took to her in a nanosecond. She was like LET ME GO BUY YOU KIDS SOME FOOD and after that day every time we'd go to Vegas she would be like oh you don't have to go see your grandma if you don't want to (I didn't); I can just drop you off at Sarah's work and you call me whenever you want to be picked up. After just that one day she was just like, automatically fond of anyone as soon as I mentioned that I knew them from the Rmy.
That show also changed how she thought about the band. Steve was like oh I'll leave you some free tickets at will call and I was like sweet (after ... I had already bought one, but whatever x.x) so I told her to come in with me but right as we were all about to go in, she was like oh nvm I'm going to go to the casino and I'll just come back in a few hours. After the show I saw her standing outside the venue so I had her come inside and as we were waiting in line to buy what ended up being 120 bucks worth of merch she told me that she had ended up just going to grab dinner and stopped by some store or other but then came back to SOMA and stayed since she could hear the music from the parking lot so I guess she just ... creepily sat there in the car with the windows rolled down? But hey whatever. So she admits that the music was "actually kind of ... really awesome, and I can see the appeal this sort of scene has for you," so I'm like oh well that's nice. Wanna go with me to the meet and greet?
So we go upstairs into this teeny tiny little room and talk to everyone except Bob, who was ... I dunno, hiding in a closet or something (actually he was in another little room that was just off of the room we were in ;_;). Mikey was actually super hyper And we got stuff signed (my mum got stuff signed for Joycie because she was like oh hi I don't even know who you all are) and got pictures and mum's gone to most of the mychem shows I've gone to since then.
And holy crap this is long and was more about me/my mum than the Rmy so another experience that sticks out in my mind a lot was when we went to go see mychem on Jay Leno's show. I had been to a few consecutive shows with some other Rmy kids and it was kind of a last minute-ish decision to continue on with Leno. So we stopped at K-Mart (to buy ... a sheet, right? rofl) and ended up in Burbank at 4 AM. AND OH MY GOD THAT WAS HONESTLY ONE OF THE COLDEST NIGHTS OF MY LIFE. Ughhhhh that line sucked; I don't know why it sucked way more than waiting in line usually does but w/e). And in line we met Nancy! Does anyone else remember Nancy? I still keep in touch with her from time to time. We met her at that show and then the next day there was a show in San Diego and at the last minute Nancy decided to go and she picked up Cypress Sarah (after school, I think? I'm pretty sure it was a school day because I remember calling one of my instructors saying I couldn't do my presentation today since I was super sick, and it worked because my voice was just barely there at that point) and somehow made it down to San Diego in time for the show. Anyway, back to Leno, I love how in that clip we were screaming so loudly that you can't hear anything Leno says, and I also remember the staff telling us we had to put away our promo stickers 'cause we were passing them around and holding them up, so we put them on our shirts instead.
I have way too many things to ramble about but I'll at least wait until someone else says something, heh. Soooo, favorite MCRmy memories? Threads? Did you ever meet people off of the boards, go to shows with them or just hang out? Any funny stories about shows you went to? If you were underage when you joined the Rmy, how did your parents react to you liking the band or being in the street team?
APPARENTLY I JUST HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS OMG.
